Die Handlung setzt sechs Jahre nach dem Ende der Vorgängerserie „Packed to the Rafters“ ein. Dave und Julie haben sich ein neues Leben auf dem Land mit ihrer jüngsten Tochter Ruby aufgebaut, während sich die älteren Rafter-Kinder neuen Herausforderungen stellen müssen. Auch Grandpa Ted ist sich nicht mehr so ganz sicher, wo er nun hingehört. Während Dave seine neue gewonnene Freiheit genießt, versucht Julie irgendwie ihre Verantwortung der Familie gegenüber nicht zu vernachlässigen.
